“Throw me some pitch. If the Gods won’t have it, mortals will.”

BEHORO; the state of being surrounded by the absolutes of Beauty, Horror, and Rock.

BEHORO is a 36 pg. tower-defense, map-drawing game about exploring the wilderness and expanding your mountain-rooted kingdom.

You are the sovereign of the above-ground. A terrible, majestic place where your people will fight tooth and nail to make a livelihood. Your single goal is to keep them safe, while expanding out into the world to find a new way of living that runs past simple survival. Maybe one day you won’t have to combat the world for your right to emerge from the underground, and look out at the pitch-filled sky.

“In a land of woe, we sing. In a land of joy, we’d sing.”

You will expand your cities into the wild by drawing from a deck of cards. The events and structures that you pass through are yours to weave into a story through in-game journaling mechanics and sketches on your map. This is a flexible game where you can change rules as you see fit to make the experience more enjoyable, especially as such lore develops. Rules are here to provide a framework to start off with, ready to break down and reform as the world grows.

BEHORO is a stand-alone game that was built to allow synergy and mechanical combination with systems such as DELVE (+ free expansions Feast and Famine, On Honor), To Care Is To Cairn, The Last Step, and The Quiet Year. All systems involve drawing cards in order to facilitate in-world events. The lands you explore may additionally link with or provide inspiration for campaigns followed in other RPGs such as Dungeons and Dragons. BEHORO and other linked games may be transformed from Solo to Multiplayer by simply playing on the same set of paper.

I'm not really up on my Tolkien, but isn't Rings of Power the movie or series that just became like the most expensive crash & burn in entertainment history?  I just saw that listed amongst the inspirations and got suspicious.  Like I said, I don't know any specifics, but I am curious about using something the entire viewing public thought was terrible as inspiration.  Shouldn't games be inspired by things that were well received and enjoyed?

Well I'm not the general public, and I got ideas to use in my work from it. Simple as that. Even if I didn't like it, there could still be parts that I enjoyed or brought about ideas.
